Travel + Accommodation
We’re so excited to share one of our favorite places with you.
Zermatt is located in the German speaking region of Switzerland in the Canton of Valais. The car-free village is a stone’s throw from the Italian border. It’s also home to one of the most picturesque peaks in the world, the Matterhorn. We’ve put together a list of recommended hotels and secured some discounts. Scroll down for more information on making the journey to paradise.
Tip: March is peak season. We recommend booking accommodation now. Many hotels have generous cancellation policies; book now and modify later if needed.
Traveling to Zermatt
For those traveling from the United States, we recommend flying into Zurich (ZRH). There are direct flights to Zurich from most major US cities. At Zurich Airport, collect your luggage and catch a train to the car-free village of Zermatt (3.5 hours). There is one train connection in Visp for the final hour of the trip. We don’t recommend driving to Zermatt (trust us!).
Tip: Check your passport expiration date. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from the Schengen Area.
Train to Zermatt:
SBB trains (Swiss Federal Railways) leave every hour from Zurich Airport to Zermatt. Download the SBB Mobile app to search connections from Zürich Flughafen to Zermatt, Bahnhof. We recommend taking the hourly option with one connection as opposed to connecting multiple times. After customs at Zurich Airport, follow signs to the Train.
Train tickets:
Create an account on the SBB Mobile app to purchase your tickets. SBB offers the Saver Day Pass which allows unlimited travel (train, bus, tram, etc.) throughout Switzerland on the validity date of the pass. Saver Day Passes start at CHF 52 and become available six months before the travel date. SBB only offers a limited number of these passes. Our suggestion is to purchase two Saver Day Passes (for your travel dates to/from Zermatt).
We don’t recommend purchasing tickets on the day of travel (regular roundtrip tickets to Zermatt are CHF 258).
Luggage Service:
SBB offers station to station and door to door luggage service.
